Irene is one of the ‘pioneer’ members of Running Department ( aka RD ), supporting RD since its inception in 2013. In this feature we get to know Irene a bit better.
RD: You’re like the big sister of RD! How did you come to be with RD since the very start?
Irene: I knew Terence from way back in 2008, and he said he needed help. So tadah! Here I am until now.
For the fraction of you who don’t know who Terence is, he is the founder of the Running Department. Best described as a man with a cap who believes in talking less and doing more.
RD: That’s an impressive 11 years that you’ve been supporting Terence with his endeavours! So how many races have you paced till date?
Irene: About 12? I’ve lost count already!
And if Irene’s memory has served her right and that count of 12 is correct, then we can replace that with 13 because she paced for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon last weekend too.
You can see Irene ( extreme right ) crossing the finishing line with her team mates. She was a 5hr 15 mins full marathon pacer for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2019. Yet another feather in her running hat.
RD: What is it about pacing that you love?
Irene: I like to encourage runners to finish their race and not give up half way.
RD: So, being an avid runner, how many pairs of running shoes do you own?
Irene: Currently I have 5 pairs. Not many luh!
RD: I believe 5 pairs is already more than the average person! Now, just for fun, if you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be?
Irene: Tiger. Cause people all say I look very fierce when I don’t smile. But I am actually harmless!

We think you look just too wise with that owl Irene.
RD: We can actually vouch for that. Irene is indeed a very amiable person; hence everyone sees her like a sister in RD. Other than running, do you have any other hobbies?
Irene: Eating loh. Eat to run, run to eat. Haha!
RD: Lastly, has running taught you about any lessons in life?
Irene: Running has taught me to never give up easily!
Thank you Irene for taking the time to share about yourself, and if you have missed any of our other Feature Fridays check them out here.
