Happy May Day!
#RDTickTalk is back and this time, we get to do a short interview with Maurice, a financial software developer who is also one of our crew members helping with the management of our Wednesday community-run session!
Find out more about Maurice in this week’s #RDTickTalk!
ALL ABOUT YOU AND RUNNING
What sparked your interest in running?
Being able to keep fit and make new friends
What’s your weekly running routine like?
I don’t really have a specific routine when I am not training for races. But I usually run on Wednesdays and Saturdays with RD. Then maybe head out to do a longer run on one of the weekends or just an exploratory run on my own. I enjoy easy runs and like to incorporate hills into my routine as well.
How long have you been running with RD?
6 years
Share with us a favorite race / running memory!
Gold Coast 2019. It was really fun being able to travel, eat, and run all at the same time with my running friends.
What is your current favorite pair of running shoes?
Asics Kayano 24! The initial reason I bought the Kayanos is because I am an overpronator and it helps to prevent me from overpronating too much. I like that it is very stable, responsive and has a really good grip – especially when it comes to trail running which I do quite frequently. The shoe also performs well for very long/ultra distances as well and thus it’s a good fit for me!
Any pre-race or post run ritual?
Carbo-load!
Are there any races in your bucket list?
Not specifically but definitely want to try an Overseas Trail/Ultra.
KNOWING YOU BETTER
Is there any quote that inspires you?
What’s easy isn’t worth it, what’s worth it isn’t easy.
What is your comfort food?
Hawker/Asian food such as Char Kway Tiao, Coffee, Bread and Pizza.
Do you have any favorite drink?
Pokka Peppermint Green Tea and I also love a good (craft) beer after a good workout/run.
Editor: Ok. Let’s go drink some good Peppermint Green Tea soon.
Do you have any other hobbies besides running?
Eating
Tell us something we all don’t know about Maurice.
Completed a 101k ultra before in October 2019. Was certified as one of the NUTS. 😅
Complete this sentence: If I am not running, I will ….
Be eating.
Editor: Now we really know why you’re always the one tasked to make decision on what post-run makan venue will be… cos your biggest hobby is not running but EATING! 🌭🍔🍲
YOU AND RUNNING DEPARTMENT
What do you like most about running with Running Department?
It is always fun and enjoyable. Everybody is just so spontaneous also.
What makes Running Department special to you?
It feels like a family.
Any special moments about Running Department to share with us?
Racing and pacing with RD always feels special because there is so much support on the ground.
What is that one tip that you will give to runners who want to run with Running Department?
Just come and have fun!
Why do you want to be a volunteer crew / pacer?
I want to give back and make an impact on the running community (RD). RD pacers have been a huge motivation for my running journey. I hope to encourage, cheer and help my fellow running companions to achieve their goals.
Lastly, any hopes or wishes that you would like to share with us for 2022?
I wish that we would get to run, eat and go out as a huge running family in the near future again! It has been a long while since everyone gathered together as a big group due to covid.
