In the last couple of weeks, we have been kept waiting on our toes for “major announcements” on this year’s edition of Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM). We attended the launch event of SCSM 2019 to bring you the latest scoop on the biggest running event of the year!
Mark your calendars – 29 Nov to 1 Dec
This year the event will run over three fun-filled days instead of two days last year.
· Friday 29 Nov – Kids Dash
· Saturday 30 Nov – Half Marathon, Full Marathon and Ekiden
· Sunday 1 Dec – 5km and 10km
New evening start time for the Half Marathon, Full Marathon and Ekiden
If you like running in the evening, you will love the new flag-off time! The race will start at 6pm for the half marathon, full marathon and Ekiden.
No more waking up in the wee hours for a mad rush to make the 4:30am start. Runners will also finish the race in cooler temperatures which can mean more personal best results, and even a new course record!
Not running? Support your friends
Supporters can soak in the exciting race atmosphere at any of the 26 entertainment zones across the island. The event is a celebration of the human spirit and spectators of all ages are welcome to join in the party!
World Marathon Major candidate
The event organizers have been paving the way for SCSM to become the seventh World Major Marathon, joining the most prestigious marathons in the world: London, Berlin, New York, Boston, Chicago and Tokyo.
Running its 18th year, the Singapore Marathon will be the youngest to qualify for this status.
Train with the pacers
This is an event for everybody. Whether you have set yourself an incredibly scary goal for the full marathon or just want to toe the line for your first 5km race, you will have plenty of time to prepare after signing up. We are kick-starting our training program in August so look out for the announcements by following Running Department on Facebook.
Bonus: Make new friends and enjoy a unique experience by joining us a pacer! Running Department has been supporting the race as official pacers since 2011.
